Nau mai, haere mai ki te Kura o Nukuhou North — welcome to Nukuhou North School.

Ko wai mātou — Who are we?
Nestled opposite the maunga, Pukenuioraho, with the Ruakani/Nukuhou awa flowing gently behind us, and Te Urewera within our sights, we are a small, rural, full primary (Years 0–8) situated midway between Whakatāne (via Tāneatua) and Ōpōtiki on State Highway 2, in the beautiful Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Many of our tamariki whakapapa to our local iwi, Ngāi Tūhoe, ki Te Waimana Kaaku. Our learning is centred around understanding who we are as a kura and hāpori, and creating meaningful opportunities that reflect our unique rural environment. We strive to ensure our tamariki are connected to the stories, history, language, and culture of the past, present and future, grounding their education in a strong sense of identity and place. We enjoy learning experiences both within the classroom and outdoors, in our school māra kai and wetland, and connecting with other places in our local taiao and hāpori. 

We live by our school motto: Ka whai ora tonu ngā akoranga mo te ao katoa – Learning for Life. Learning is also centred around our school values of: Akohia/Learning; Manawaroa/ Resilience; Mahi Tahi/Collaboration and Tiakitanga/Responsibility. Our kaiako and kaiāwhina support tamariki to be their best and to try their best, providing positive and safe learning experiences to do so.
